Two Tales of Aura Loss in New York City
Matcha guy: Guy gets on the subway 4 line with an iced matcha in hand, looks very cool. Tall dude. Curly hair very pruned. Very cool and nice clothes, subtly signalling “i’m attractive but sensible”, like nice extra baggy pants, t shirt + light vest, chain, glasses with yellow lenses. Grabs on to the railing almost like he’s posing. As soon as the subway starts moving he loses his balance and spills his matcha all over himself. Summer 2026.
Park Slope Dad Guy: Chyah Chyah and I were in park slope, we had just gotten some chinese jianbing which you kinda have to eat on the spot immediately, so we plopped down on a random stoop to eat them. So there we were, on a park slope stoop eating jianbing looking pretty cool when an old school bmw pulls up right in front of us. We were slightly nervous it was gonna be a resident of the building we were loitering. Out stepped a dude, probably early 50’s, good clothes, probably slightly insecure about his age (idk why just an energy). Overall, some park slope cool-dad aura. He closes his car door, takes a look at us (right at us), takes ONE FUCKING STEP and trips over one of those little short fences around a sidewalk garden, falls HARD onto concrete/fence/garden (all three at once). We ran over to make sure he was okay, he insisted he was okay as he hobbled away but he was clearly having an out-of-body experience due to aura loss. Fall 2024.
